Despite being at almost opposite sides of the world, Bangkok has some incredible Mexican restaurants – here are our best picks:

El Diablos
330 Sukhumvit Soi 22
Tues-Sun 11.30am-11pm

El Diablos is a family owned business and the Bangkok venue was opened after the success of the flagship restaurant in Chiang Mai. Tucked right into the depths of Sukhumvit Soi 22, this little cosy place is worth making the extra effort to find – the burritos are some of the best that Bangkok has to offer, using zingy homemade salsa and fresh coriander, just as one would expect a proper Mexican restaurant to do. The menu is long and enticing (if indeed you can entice yourself away from the wall murals), but complimentary nachos are served as you deliberate what to order, allowing you to take your time.

Charley Browns
Sukhumvit Soi 11
Tues-Sun 5.30pm-midnight
Complete with sombreros for customers to wear to really make them feel the part, this is a fun place to visit! And that’s exactly what the owners seek to achieve, as is evident by the vibrant use of bright reds and purple in the décor. The chicken fajitas are not to be missed, and it would be negligible of us not to mention the delightful sangria. A 20% discount on food is offered to teachers on Thursdays, and margaritas and sangria are half price on Tuesdays.

La Monita Taqueria
888/26 Mahatun Plaza Arcade, Phloen Chit Rd
Mon-Sun 11.30am-10pm
The fact that many Bangkokians deem La Monita to be their favourite Mexican restaurant, makes this place worthy enough visit. However, they fully deserve that reputation. The food is incredible. While the quesadillas are recommended, and the burritos are not to be missed, the tacos are the one dish you absolutely must try. A smaller branch can also be found in Siam Paragon.

Sunrise Tacos
Various locations around Bangkok
Open daily, 24 hours
If you can put to one side for a minute the delicious margaritas, made with fresh lime and other fruits, please do try the food here as it is also very good! By all means try the burritos, but the clue is in the name and the real delight here is the tacos – there is the choice of a soft or crunchy taco. The only way to eat these bad boys is with your hands – be prepared – they are heavy with fillings!

Tacos and Salsa
49 Sukhumvit Soi 18
Mon-Fri 3-11pm; Sat-Sun 11pm-midnight
Once more, the clue is in the name – this place is the Queen of the Salsa, offering no less than 5 different varieties, from the classic fresh tomato, to the spicy and only for the brave green pepper and garlic and chilli oil. In addition to the amazing salsa, the signature dish here is the quesadilla, served with the grilled meat of your choice. The cocktail menu here is also not to be overlooked – make sure you go with a group of friends so you can try The Bowl’ or Margochela (a bowl of margarita served with an upturned bottle of Corona, B700)
