Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok is a 5 star luxury hotel that has won many prestigious awards, such as The Best Hotel in Asia as well as being ranked to be the second best hotel in Bangkok and awarded The Travelers Choice Award 2014 by Tripadvisor. It was the first Hotel ever built in Thailand in 1879 and has since then been visited by a long list of famous guests such as Neil Armstrong, Sean Connery, Mick Jagger, Richard Nixon and many more.
The Mandarin is best described as grand and neoclassica. When completed it was one of the most influential and unique additions to Bangkok, which by then was the fast-growing capital of Siam.
Thailand, being one of the few countries in South East Asia not ruled by Colonial influences, The Mandarin has his own unique style.
The big library located in the hotel was not made by concidence. Famous writers such as John le Carre and Ernest Hemingway were regulars at the Mandarin. With this huge and coulourful writers background in place, the Mandarin decided to set up the South East Asian Writers’ Awards. Other facilities the Mandarin offers are the Hotel Spa, Thai Cooking school and the Famous restaurant ‘Sala Rim naam’
