Suhumvit Road is one of the longest roads in the whole of Bangkok and is lined with numerous different bars and clubs as well as other types of entertainment venues. In fact, the road is so long that it has been divided into several different districts, starting with Nana and running all the way to Bearing. Here is an overview of what Sukhumvit has to offer Bangkok’s party people.
The first sub-district of Sukhumvit is known as Nana, and this area starts around soi 4. This district is perhaps best known for Nana Plaza, which is a vibrant red light district that features several floors of racy stage shows. A large number of market stalls mark the section of Sukhumvit Road Nana and Asoke and these stalls sell everything from souvenir t-shirts to counterfeit watches and adult toys.
The Asoke district starts around soi 9 and boasts a large number of trendy bars and restaurants to choose from. One of the most popular areas here is soi 11, which is lined with restaurants that serve food from all over the world as well as some of the city’s most exciting clubs and live music venues.
Walking further along Sukhumvit Road we come to Soi Cowboy, which is a small lane sandwiched between soi 21 and soi 23. Soi Cowboy is one of Bangkok’s main red light districts and is home to a colourful collection of around forty different go go bars.
Phrom Pong Area
Starts around soi 31 and is home to a collection of large Western style bars and pubs such as The Londoner and the Robin Hood. People who venue down one of the many sois that branch off Sukhumvit Road in the Phrom Pong district will also come across several tiny colourful bars staffed by welcoming scantily clad ladies.
Thong Lor Area
Thong Lor is one of the trendiest districts of Bangkok and boasts a vibrant nightlife scene, especially along soi 55, which is also known as Thong Lor Road. This district is popular among the trendy set of Bangkokians and expats and features plenty of great bars and clubs to hang out in. Thong Lor is home to some of the city’s most popular clubs such as Demo, Shades of Retro and Bombay Bar.
The Ekkamai district spreads out around soi 63 and is also popular among Bangkok’s trendy set, although the atmosphere tends to be a little more laidback than in Thong Lor. Dirty Nelly’s Irish Pub can be found near the top of the soi and is a good place to relax with a beer or two after work, while Escobar is a great place to let off a little steam. Other popular venues here include Sonic nightclub, Bar Bu Ree, Jet Metropolitan and Sherbet.
A number of bars and restaurants have sprung up in the Phra Khanong district in recent years, and this area is quickly becoming a popular place to hang out after dark. Although Sukhumvit Road continues on for many miles all the way past Bang Na, Phra Khanong, which centres around soi 71, marks the end of Sukhumvit’s main nightlife scene.
