Cabbage & Condoms Restaurant

Cabbages & Condoms Restaurant is a concept restaurant, well known for its creative condom and contraceptive inspired decor, and admired for its charity work, with proceeds helping to support the Population and Community Development Association (PDA), who do excellent work with HIV and family planning groups. Set in the quiet Sukhumvit soi 10, Cabbages & Condoms has also gained a reputation for the Thai and Asian fusion dishes served within.

The exterior is peaceful and welcoming, far enough away from the Sukhumvit hustle and bustle to feel relaxed and in the mood for dining. As you enter you will soon start to see examples of the abstract condom decor, while the mass of hanging fairly lights give the interior a somewhat warm and friendly vibe.

Such is the global reputation of the restaurant you’ll find the majority of customers are western tourists, and it’s usually worth booking a table ahead of time or risk having to wait at the bar until one becomes available. While the most seating is situated in the central courtyard, there are some quiet corners for those looking for a more intimate experience.

The menu is large, and includes several pages of starters, soups, salads, curries, noodle dishes, main courses, vegetarian dishes, and a selection of Thai and classic desserts. Expect to pay around 250 to 350 Baht for a main course dish, and around 150 Baht for a starter or dessert. The vast majority of dishes are minor modern twists on classic Thai and Southeast Asian plates, though the recipes are not as ‘far out’ or imaginative as the surrounding decor. Star dishes include the Gang Mussamun Gae (lamb and potato curry) and the Steak Pla Salmon (salmon served with papaya salad).

With such an international reputation for being a quirky Bangkok restaurant supporting worthy cause, this is perhaps regarded more as ‘tourist restaurant’, though the staff, atmosphere and menu would also make a good setting for a dinner date or outing with close friends, with lots of conversation starters and a generally warm and welcoming vibe.
