Visiting the Madam Tussauds wax museum offers people the chance to rub shoulders with the stars in a fun filled environment. An impressive number of famous celebrities from around the world have been captured in wax and are displayed in specially created settings. This is a great place to meet stars such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Bruce Lee. Unlike many other similar museums that have been established both in Thailand and in other parts of the world, visitors to the Bangkok branch of Madam Tussauds are invited to touch, hug and even kiss the celebrities on display while taking photographs that are sure to fool their friends.
Some of the experiences that are waiting for visitors to Madam Tussauds are the chance to shoot hoops with Yao Ming, practice Kung Fu with the legendary Bruce Lee, drink an espresso with George Clooney and appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show. OK, so a little imagination is probably required in order to get the most out of this experience, but that’s all part of the fun.
Madame Tussauds opened its 10th attraction in Bangkok in December 2010. The collection here includes nearly a hundred incredibly lifelike wax figures, and one of the things that makes this venue stand out is that around 30% of the figures here represent Thai celebrities.
Visitors will be able to take their time as they explore ten different exhibit rooms that have been created in realistic themes, which really set the scene for the wax figures that wait within. This is perhaps the only place in the world where you can find cubist painter Pablo Picasso sharing space with the celebrated Thai forensic pathologist Dr. Porntip Rojanasunan. The range of celebrities on display means that there is something for everyone here, and in another room Barak and Michelle Obama can be found seated in their Oval Office beside to the Dalai Lama and Aung San Suu Kyi.
People watching adds a whole new dimension of fun to exploring Madam Tussauds. Instead of simply gazing at the wax figures, spare a few discrete looks for the other visitors and the characters that they decide to lavish their attention on. You may be surprised to discover that many visitors pass right by Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana in order to warmly greet Chairman Mao, while records show that Barak and Michelle Obama are the most frequently photographed figures.
The Bangkok branch of Madam Tussauds is the first to date that allows visitors to interact with the displays and this is a rare opportunity that they will want to take full advantage of. While you join Serena Williams for a game of tennis, feel free to touch her biceps and compare them with your own and take over the microphone to sing your heart out for pop stars like Britney Spears and Madonna. The final section is a glamorous Hollywood event, where visitors will have the chance to join celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt and Nicole Kidman on the red carpet and pose as their date for the occasion.
Madam Tussauds is situated on the 6th floor of Siam Discovery Center and is open each day from 10:00 to 21:00. The easiest way to get there is to take the Skytrain to Siam station.
