One of the great things about exploring Sukhumvit soi 11 is that there are dozens of great bars, restaurants and clubs to be found there and each offers something a little bit different. With competition fierce in this section of the city, venues that want to make a name for themselves need to offer something special, and Apoteka truly delivers.

People who wander to the very end of soi 11 will find an exciting surprise waiting for them in the form of a 19th century apothecary/bar. The apothecary theme really works here and visitors are greeted by the sight of colourful antique potion bottles in the window displays and well as behind the large bar inside. The bar’s wrought iron railings, red brick walls and high ceilings are reminiscent of New Orleans and give Apoteka a unique sense of style that really makes it stand out.

The Potions

The theme is carried on through to the special apothecary-esque potions that it concocts and cocktail lovers who want to try something a bit different are sure to be in their element here. Beer lovers are also well served, as in addition to an extensive range of spirits and other drinks, Apoteka also offers a delicious range of imported craft beers.

Some of the drinks that are just waiting to be sampled include the special potion known as The Doctor, which features an imaginative mix of Grand Marnier, strawberries and mint topped off with a dash of black pepper, while other imaginative signature cocktails include ingredients like aniseed liqueur, cinnamon and nutmeg. People who are feeling a little peckish can also sample a range of snacks and light meals including deep fried calamari, thick cut French fries and chicken burger and fries.

In for a treat at Apoteka

Apoteka offers both indoor and outdoor seating and those who want to get close to the bands can grab a table inside and perch on one of the tall chairs or stalls. The outside setting is a little less formal and comes complete with long wooden patio tables that are ideal for large groups as well as smaller intimate tables. There is also a private whiskey and cigar lounge situated in a room hidden to the side of the large staircase that is the ideal space for private parties.

Live music can be heard every night of the week at Apoteka and the bands kick off at around 9pm. Each of the bands offers something a little bit different, such as an excellent selection of popular and obscure blues songs that are served up by Danny California Blues All Stars on Fridays and the Soi Dogs Blues Band, which is Bangkok’s oldest blues band.

People who are looking for somewhere to hang out on a Sunday are invited to attend Apoteka’s weekly barbeque, which features a range of tasty treats hot off the barbecue with live music provided by bands such as Kamp Krusty and the Sausage Fest. Some of the biggest names in the worlds of blues, jazz and folk music also regularly turn up at Apoteka to the delight of dedicated music lovers.
