Silom is a district with two distinctly different characteristics. While the law firms, financial institutions and multinational corporations here give the area a high powered business feel during the day, Silom takes on a much sexier side after the sun sets. Starting the Evening
People who are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind with a pint or two at the start of the evening will find several Western-style pubs to choose from in Silom. These pubs come complete with large television screens that display the latest football matches as well as European beer on tap and a good selection of Western dishes to try. Molly Malone’s Irish Pub can be found on Soi Convent, while O’Reillys is situated next to the Sala Daeng BTS station.
People who have a head for heights and enjoy the finer things in life are sure to enjoy hanging out in Silom’s sky bars. In addition to offering stunning views of the city and plenty of intimate corners where dates can escape and enjoy a romantic evening together, these rooftop bars are also great places to see and be seen. Some of the best rooftop bars in Silom include Cloud 47, Vertigo, Distil and Sky Bar and each of these stylish venues offers an interesting selection of cocktails as well as light bites and other treats.
Some of Silom’s Hottest Places
With so many bars competing for attention in the Silom district, many of the hottest venues focus on style and decadence while offering something a little bit different. These bars cater to Bangkok’s bright young things and include elaborate theme venues like Maggie Choo’s as well as Hu’u, Met Bat the Barbican, V9 and Nui’s.
Many of the clubs that can be found along Patpong Road feature live bands to get the crowd warmed up at the start of the evening as well as DJs that can be found spinning the hottest tunes on the decks. These venues really heat up around midnight and some of the area’s most popular clubs include Radio City, Funky Dojos, Twilo and Lucifers.
The Red Light District and Gay Scene
Patpong is Silom’s red light district and can be found between Soi 2 and Soi 4. Patpong boasts a large number of go go bars for visitors to choose from, many of which provide sexy stage shows that are not for the faint of heart. Patpong also boasts a large night market that is packed with stalls selling everything from copies of designer label bags and watches to perfume and cheap souvenirs. People can often be found browsing for bargains at these stalls while the work up the courage to venue inside the nearby go go bars.
Silom Soi 4 is the centre of Bangkok’s gay scene and a number of gay friendly bars and clubs can be found here such as Telephone and DJ Station, while 9 Night Club offers drag cabaret shows. These venues attract both men and women from all over the world and offer fun atmospheres in which to play.
